PAINT THE TOWN ‘RED’ AT YADAD’S FIRST ANNUAL FUNDRAISING FEAST
--Youth Against Drugs and Diseases Hosts Red Night Out Commemorating World AIDS
Day--
While the rest of the world decks the halls and trims the trees, Youth Against Drugs and
Diseases is taking a stand against the AIDS epidemic and invites other concerned citizens to
join the fight. On World AIDS Day, Saturday, December 1, 2007 from 6:30 p.m.-10 p.m.,
YADAD will host its first annual Red Night Out, hosted by veteran reporter Shannon Powell of
Wavy TV-10, at the ever popular Posh Dolche restaurant located at 257 Granby Street in
Norfolk. Seating is limited and tickets will be sold on a first-come-first-served basis.
The cost is $75 per individual and $270 per table of four, payable in advance by check.
Proceeds will be used to fund the operational costs of YADAD's Youth Resource Center in
Chesapeake, a new facility that provides health, informational and mentoring services to
teens and their families. Monies collected from the event will also help to organize special
events and prevention programs.
This night promises to be one to remember with a specially prepared, three-course meal
including succulent shrimp for hope, delicious parmesan encrusted tilapia of love or glazed
orange chicken of charity as an alternative, rice pilaf for chance, a colorful vegetable medley
of faith, and finally a mouth-watering red velvet cake of life. Hors d’oeuvres will be served
preceding the meal, and guests will receive a complimentary beverage ticket. The evening
will also include special guest speakers and presentations of awards to outstanding
members of the community.
Every year on December 1, the world comes together to commemorate World AIDS Day, an
epidemic that has affected over 39.5 million people worldwide. Leadership has been chosen
by the World AIDS Campaign as the theme for World AIDS Day 2007 and 2008. This theme
will continue to be promoted with the slogan "Stop AIDS. Keep the Promise." YADAD hopes
to encourage Hampton Roads to do the same.
“One of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do in life is watch my loved ones suffer and die
from this disease. As a leader, I’m taking a stand. We not only want to raise awareness about
the seriousness of this issue, but we also want to encourage people to take a personal stand
against this disease by making better choices in their own lives and setting a positive
example for others,” says YADAD founder and president Saran Bell-Day.
YADAD is a local youth organization strongly committed to preventing teens from becoming
exposed to the dangers of substance abuse, violence, and diseases. This budding
organization offers a multitude of programs and services geared toward education and
awareness. YADAD also hosts several exciting fundraising events during the year including
Youth Fest, a fun-filled musical extravaganza for children.

YOUTH TO ‘RAP-IT-UP’ AT COMMUNITY FORUM
--BET and 103 Jamz Team Up with YADAD in Fight against AIDS Epidemic--
Join BET, 103 Jamz and YADAD on Wednesday, October 24th from 3 p.m.-5 p.m. as they invite
local teenagers to participate in an open forum about the affects of HIV/AIDS on African-American
youth. Attendees are asked to donate canned goods for the Southeastern Foodbank.
This event will be held at Booker T. Washington High School and will feature national recording
artist Sammie; expert panelists Irma Hinkle, program coordinator for ACCESS; Janet Hall, HIV
positive motivational speaker; Pavar Snipe of the Boodah Brothers Morning Show; Gerard Ghee,
case manager at TACT; Alicia Dickens, RN, CS, FNP; Saran Bell-Day, President of YADAD; radio
personalities Chris Caliente and DJ Rick Geez of 103 Jamz, and special surprise guests from BET.
Panelists and participants will discuss several topics including common myths about the disease,
the impact of peer pressure on sexual activity, the images of sexual promiscuity in the media, and
the availability of resources for teens that have already tested positive.
“The number of new HIV/AIDS cases in this country is astonishing. There is no time to waste, and
each moment we allow ourselves to become complacent about this disease, is another moment we
have allowed one of our own to become infected. It’s time we come together as a community to fight
for our lives and the lives of our children. I’m grateful for our sponsors and supporters, 103 Jamz
and BET. Together, we hope to encourage the future leaders of this country to make better
decisions that could prolong and enhance their lives,” says Saran Bell-Day, Founder of YADAD.
